Shaftpower and Torque measurement (TORXmeter®)

The optimal operation of ship system has become increasingly important in recent years. The development of fuel costs and the various regulations for an energy-efficient ship make this type of measurement technology indispensable.

Torque measurement is an important measurement tool for complex ship machine monitoring and diagnostics. Not only the torque is determined, but also the shaft speed, so that the shaftpower can be calculated from these two variables.

The TORXmeter® Shaftpower Measurement System is one of the most cost-effective and easy-to-install solutions for speed, torque, and shaft power measurement on marine shafts.

Simple operation

Two sensors, including sensor belts, are installed on the ship’s shaft as far apart as possible. The measuring principle enables a high resolution of the entire system by extremely fast (EXFR) magnetic scanning of the magnetic pattern of the sensor belts. The sensors use the magnetic pole change and the zero crossing (change of the magnetic fields) between the two sensor bands for angle measurement. By a local display, the measured values (torque, speed, shaftpower) can be read directly on the display or output by connecting to external system (RS485-NMEA protocol or 4-20mA outputs).
