MARINE MEASUREMENT & MONITORING
Oil mist detector
Oil mist from leaking fuel, lube or hydraulic oil lines is one of the main causes of engine room fires and crankcase explosions. QMI oil mist detection systems give an early warning, both inside the engine crankcase and in open machinery spaces. They use light scatter (nephelometry) technology, respond within 500 milliseconds and give true oil mist readings in mg/l. They measure at the source, without long sampling pipes or compressed air, and tolerate up to 50 % lens obscuration, which helps avoid false alarms. The QMI Engine Detector monitors crank spaces, and the QMI Atmospheric Sensor watches engine rooms, purifier rooms, pump rooms and hydraulic areas. Both connect to the QMI Multiplex Monitor (12 channels) or Triplex Monitor (3 channels). These offer traffic-light displays, early warning and main alarms, engine slowdown, self-diagnostics and data logging. Older systems can be upgraded. This gives crews, technical managers and purchasers a type-approved solution for fire prevention, engine protection and the coming IMO requirements for atmospheric oil mist detection.Â
