Cylinder Pressure – electronic (PMImkII) Kistler Sensor

IMPA: 652641

Item No. 10001000011129

Since the initial development of the diesel and steam engines, indications for evaluating the combustion process and power distribution have been utilised. Since the late 1980s, mechanical indicators that measure engine combustion pressure have been progressively supplanted with electronic indicators.

The rising engine efficiency and cost pressures, due to escalating fuel prices, have resulted in increasing requests for electronic indications in recent years. The data about combustion processes is becoming progressively significant, as the implementation of electronic indicators has enabled the collection of onboard data and its near-instantaneous transmission via email to technical inspectors for analysis.

A Complete Solution for Engine Diagnostics

The pressure mean indicator (PMImkII) is a cutting-edge engine pressure indicator developed to measure dynamic cylinder pressures and provide detailed combustion curve analysis for large two- and four-stroke diesel engines. Measurements with this advanced measurement equipment are carried out via the indicator valve.
The PMImkII combines advanced technology with an exceptional price-to-performance ratio. This electronic indicator ensures completely unbiased data acquisition and evaluation, which are essential for the following:

  • Optimizing engine performance
  • Increasing fuel efficiency
  • Reducing emissions

Its intuitive handling allows even inexperienced operators to take precise measurements within minutes, making the PMImkII a truly user-friendly solution.

Simple Operation

Technical specification

Electronic indicators are the stethoscope of marine engineers, providing valuable insight into the engine’s performance and combustion process. Both unequal load distribution (MIP, Pind) between the cylinders of the engine and the compliance with maximum permissible pressure limits (Pmax, Pmean) can be analyzed quickly and reliably. Complex damage patterns such as timing problems in the combustion process can be quickly recorded and analysed immediately on board or by shore-based technical support.

  • Simple operation and measurement on the motor
  • Pre-configuration of the hand-held device (after submission of the parameters)
  • Support with setting up the device and analyzing the first measurement by email
  • No installation of a TDC sensor required
  • Easy handling and plug and play installation of the software
  • Use of a high quality pressure sensor
  • Sufficient memory to analyze up to 50 engines, 24 cylinders per engine
  • Simple PC software update by email
  • Direct sending of measurements by email
  • Rechargeable standard batteries

The PMImkII (pressure mean indicator) is used to measure the dynamic cylinder pressures of large two- and four-stroke diesel and gas engines.

To prepare for the measurement, the PC software must be installed on a Windows computer. (Alternatively, the engine-specific data is already pre-installed before delivery). The engine-specific data (M / E and A / E) are created with the PC software and transferred to the handset. The meter is now ready for the measurement. Connect the handheld to the pressure sensor.

In order to be able to measure pressure curves with the PMImkII, the engine on each cylinder must be equipped with a standard indicator valve. The pressure sensor is temporarily screwed to the corresponding indicator valve with the Thompson adapter. (It is not suitable for continuous measurements (overheating damage)).

After selecting the engine to be measured, the handheld device guides the user through the measurement process.

By using the latest technology, a crank angle assignment can also be performed without the use of OT sensors.

The recorded data can be visualised and evaluated using the PC software.
