The overspeed and overload protection system is a critical safety function that prevents engines from running beyond their design limits. If this protection fails to trigger the automatic shutdown in an emergency, the engine can suffer severe mechanical damage, loss of propulsion and increased fire risk.

Regular testing with a dedicated simulator ensures that the safety devices, sensors and shutdown logic actually operate when required. It provides crews and technical management confidence in the protection system, supports compliance with class and regulatory requirements, and helps prevent costly incidents and unplanned off‑hire.

Safely verify engine overspeed protection and automatic shutdown

Classification societies prescribe overspeed protection devices for combustion engines with a power output > 220 kW.

Simple operation

Sccope of supply

The OTM overspeed tester and simulator allow a check of overspeed safely, incl. Speed pickup test.
By connecting the OTM in series with the existing overspeed protection system, both the generated signals from the pickups are measured, displayed and checked for plausibility, and a freely adjustable speed value is sent to the overspeed protection device. The engine can be at a standstill or at any other speed, and it undergoes a real overspeed test.
