Cylinder liner measurement is a key element of condition‑based maintenance on large diesel engines. It provides quantitative information about wear, distortion and changes in the geometry of the running surface that are not visible in a simple visual assessment

By measuring parameters such as diameter, ovality and taper at defined depths and positions, engineers can track how the liner moves away from its original specification over time. This makes it possible to identify critical wear zones, evaluate lubrication and cooling performance, and decide when honing, replacement or other corrective actions are required.

Regular, documented liner measurements help to prevent secondary damage like increased blow‑by, loss of compression, scuffing and high oil consumption. They also support compliance with engine maker recommendations, more accurate planning of overhaul intervals and a safer, more efficient long‑term operation of marine and stationary engines.

Reliable cylinder liner ovality monitoring with the DI-5C for optimized engine performance

The ovality kit is an accessory for the DI-5CTX. It is primarily designed for measuring the ovality and wear of the cylinder liners of diesel engines with a cylinder diameter of 180-600 mm and a stroke length of up to 870 mm.

The transducer connected to the DI-5CTX enables the Ovality Kit to measure the differences to an accuracy of 1/1000 mm.

The DI-5CTX and associated software allow the measured data to be transferred to a Windows PC and even exported to an Excel spreadsheet for further data processing and comparison.

Please note! A standard 89 mm transducer is required to use the Ovality Kit. For this reason, the Ovality Kit is not compatible with the DI-5CSTX, which has a 60 mm small transducer.

The ovality kit is only available as an option for a crank cheek breathing DI-5CTX.
