Thrust – and Torquemeasurement (EVOthrust®)

The Determination of the Propeller Thrust is until now an indicator which is rare found in the practice application .

Different than the torque and power measurement on propulsion systems, which is often already used when it comes to the assessment of ship systems and its optimal operation.

The metrological difficulties to be considered in the thrust measurement are the very small measuring range, torsion and temperature effects, as well as the influence of the shaft bending. These influences are to be considered in the evaluation of the measured data and corrected in advance, during the measurement.

Here we have developed a system that master these difficulties.

The EVOthrust® Thrust and Torque Measurement System is an easy-to-install solution for thrust, speed, torque, and power measurement on marine shafts.

  • Permanent monitoring of the ratio of generated engine torque to propeller thrust
  • Supporting measurement system for the monitoring of the hull (Hull Performance Monitoring)
  • Important parameters for shipyards and shipowners through the visualization of two important measures for the efficiency of a ships
  • Not only for daily use but also for the design of a ship.
  • Supports calculating of fuel consumption (only for the measured quantity of shaft power)

Example: Specific fuel oil consumption is the ratio of the total hourly fuel consumption of the main and auxiliary engines to the driven shaft power

  • By measuring thrust and torque, the propeller efficiency can be determined
  • Ship installations for new buildings and retrofits
Example: tankers, container ships, cargo ships (dry freighters), ferries, etc.

The contactless measuring system measures elastic compression of the ship’s shaft as well as elastic torsion through the use of high-resolution HD sensor technology. The HD sensors are aligned against a target object and measure here the distance changes in the nanometer range. In addition, built-in temperature sensors support the measurement and evaluation, through internal calculation and calculation of the measured values. A local display shows the measured values (torque, thrust, speed, shaft power) on a display, as the measured values can also be output by connecting to external systems (or 4-20mA outputs). A PC software supports the user in the evaluation and reporting of the measurement results.

  • Robust mechanical measuring system
  • Easy installation (fully pre-adjusted)
  • Installation of the shaft system compensates shaft tolerances
  • High-resolution sensor technology (no strain gauges)
  • Wear-free measuring principle
  • Contactless energy transfer
  • Telemetric data transmission
  • Components can be easily replaced (plug and play)
  • Windows software incl. Data storage of measurement and log data
